Blind light, drawn to black.
Inspired by early morning runs, these images describe both the ephemeral quality of light on water at sunrise and clouds that join in unison. The initial smudge of a sunrise is the union of earth’s souls, carried on the water and echoed within the clouds.
Blurring the edges of drawing and photography, they are the result of experimentation with developer as a drawing medium.
They are made by exposing photo paper under the enlarger then using developer to draw and smudge until the paper turns black. Once the paper is fixed and viewed in light, one can then see a tonal range. This ritual comes full circle with its creation, to black within a darkroom.
